Day 1 after surgery

Well, the boys had their minor outpatient procedures done yesterday. Isaac had an adenoidectomy and a tonsillectomy and Alex had an adenoidectomy. Both of the boys had the procedures done yesterday. We arrived at the Womens Hospital at Centennial at about 6:00 am and Alex was prepped and ready for surgery before 7:30. His procedure went well and he was out of surgery and in the PACU by a little after 8:00. Isaac was taken back a short time after Dr. Viner finished with Alex. Isaac was sound asleep and didn't realize he had even gone to the OR. His procedures went well also, but when he woke up in the PACU, he was very upset. I was called to the PACU to console him. Seeing my son upset like that was the worst experience I've had so far as a mother. Thankfully he calmed down quickly once I laid on the stretcher with him. I'm not sure how we both fit, but we made it work! Then he was ready to see his brother. Alex recovered very well. When they brought him back into the room from the PACU, all he wanted was for the nurse to take the IV out of his arm. He fought with it, but finally we convinced him that he would have to drink the apple juice the nurse brought before they would take it out. When I came back from the PACU with Isaac, he was eating his popsicle and was IV free. Isaac took a little longer to come out of the anesthesia and once he could stay awake, he drank his Sprite and ate his popsicle. Then we were ready to go home! The boys did a fantastic job, and I am so proud of them. The funniest thing is that neither of them wanted to put their hospital gowns on and insisted on taking their clothes with them into surgery. Here are some of the pictures I took so I could send them to Clarence as he had to be at school yesterday for his midterm exam. I am so proud of Clarence too because he aced his midterm despite the obvious distraction he had yesterday.
Isaac was not happy about being in the hospital

Having his blood pressure checked by Nurse Lori

Alex having his blood pressure checked. He thought it was funny because Nurse Lori said she was checking to see if he had any muscles.

Isaac fell asleep before they even took Alex to surgery

Alex used his little mask as a steering wheel to drive his race car bed. The nurse pictured here told us that when they got to the OR he jumped out of his race car into his jet plane and put on his oxygen mask and was out very quickly. No trouble at all!

Alex right after he came back from the PACU

Isaac when we got back from the PACU. He still wasn't sure about what just happened.

Alex enjoying his first popsicle. He got another one when they brought Isaac one.

Isaac slept for a while after surgery

Still sleeping. His gown had tigers all over it and the phrase "tired little tiger". So true!

He finally woke up enough to enjoy a popsicle

Going home at about 11:45 am. It's amazing how quickly we were in and out of the hospital!
The boys are doing great today. Alex is eating and drinking well, and you can barely tell he had anything done yesterday. Isaac is in a little more pain due to the tonsillectomy, and consequently not eating or drinking very well. So, we are giving him his pain medicine consistently and encouraging him to eat and drink as much as possible.
Thank you to my parents who helped me with the boys at the hospital while Clarence was at school. Thank you to all our other friends and family for all their kind words and support. Clarence and I were both very nervous as neither of our boys had had surgery before yesterday. It is very comforting to have supportive family and friends. Thank you!
